Starting Now - A Free Stroke Education Program
This course prepares all parents-to-be for their own individual birthing experience. Whether you choose Lamaze, epidural, natural childbirth or a planned C-section, or even if you are undecided about which childbirth method to use, this class will help prepare you and your partner for the arrival of your newborn. This is located next to the service elevator on the second floor near ICU. The classes are taught by Registered Nurses from our Labor and Delivery Department. Fee is $20. Registration is required.
Presented by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), this 8-hour course is for drivers ages 50 and older. The program consists of a classroom refresher course touching on such topics as aging and physical changes related to driving, compensation for these changes, and rules of the road. The Diabetes Management Program at Lane Memorial Hospital has the answers you need to live a healthy life. Group education is combined with one-on-one attention. Each participant will receive an initial evaluation and assessment, and follow-up reinforcements as needed.
Lunch and snacks will be provided.
The program is instructed by a Certified Registered Nurse Diabetes Educator and a Registered Dietitian. All sessions are held in Conference Room 1 at Lane Memorial Hospital. A free stroke education program for the community is held each month at Lane Rehabilitation Center. This comprehensive program features five lesson plans conducted in conjunction with the American Stroke Association and presented by the staff of Lane Rehabilitation Center.
Topics include "The Facts and Figures of Stroke", "Understanding Changes in the Behavior and Emotional Aspects of Stroke", "How Stroke Affects Communication, Cognition, and Swallowing", "How Stroke Affects Mobility and Daily Living", and "Medical Management of Stroke and Prevention of Recurring Stroke".
